Nikki Schmitt, LLMSW

Therapist

Hello! I’m Nikki, a child and family therapist specializing in working with children ages 3–11 and their caregivers. My passion areas include trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral challenges. I also have experience supporting children in foster care or those who have been adopted, and I understand the unique emotional and relational needs that can accompany these experiences.

My therapeutic approach is compassionate and relationally-focused, combining play-based and expressive art interventions with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. I also draw from trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) when working with children who have been through traumatic experiences.

Ages I work with

  • Children 3-11
I approach therapy with an understanding that each child is different, adapting interventions to meet their individual strengths, challenges, and developmental level. Because of the important role that caregivers play in a child’s emotional well-being, I value partnering with caregivers to support a child’s progress and foster secure attachment. I am dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive space that promotes healing, growth, and meaningful change. Ongoing training and supervision from experienced child and family clinicians are essential to my practice, and I value them for supporting my ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based therapy.
