Dave Maat, MA, LPC
Therapist
Hi there, I’m Dave. I believe deeply in the inherent worth, dignity, and value of every person. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling from Spring Arbor University and have spent the last 6 years doing this work — and I am still continually humbled by the trust clients place in me as they invite me into their stories — stories of pain, joy, loss, longing, and resilience. For me, therapy is not about fixing people, but about honoring the courage it takes to be honest and creating space where healing can begin.
I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families navigating a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relational conflict, divorce, substance use, and spiritual or religious harm. I have a particular sensitivity to those who have experienced spiritual abuse or religious trauma and strive to offer a space where clients feel safe to explore questions of faith, identity, and healing without pressure or judgment.
Ages I work with
- Individual Adults 18+
- Couples
My work is grounded in a relational, person-centered, and narrative approach. I value walking alongside clients as they make meaning of their experiences, reconnect with themselves, and move toward the life they hope to live. I approach therapy with humility, warmth, and curiosity, and am committed to ongoing learning as a way of better serving the people who trust me with their stories.
I welcome people from all backgrounds and identities and work intentionally to create an environment where every client feels respected, seen, and supported. If you’re ready to take that first step, reach out — I’d be honored to connect.
