Nikki Schmitt, LLMSW

Therapist

Hi, I’m Nikki! I specialize in working with children and adolescents ages 3-17 and their caregivers. I believe that true healing and growth is made possible through a supportive relationship where a child or teen feels seen and valued. I am particularly passionate about walking alongside families facing challenges related to trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and foster care/adoption. I also have experience supporting kids and teens through struggles with suicidal ideation, self-harm, and identify concerns. Caregivers are a central part of my work–your insight, relationship, and involvement are incredibly valuable.

Ages I work with

  • Children 3-17
Therapy with children doesn’t look like adult therapy–and it shouldn’t. With young children, I use play therapy, expressive arts, and sand tray to meet children in the language they already speak. I also draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, TF-CBT, and motivational interviewing to help youth of all ages process trauma, build coping skills, and make sense of big feelings in ways that fit how their brains and bodies actually work. I create a warm, inclusive space where kids feel safe enough to explore what’s hard and caregivers feel supported in walking alongside them. While sessions with older kids and teens are often more conversational, I still incorporate art, games, and the individual’s interests to work towards goals in a way that is comfortable and engaging.
