Masters Level Clinical Intern

I’m Wendell, a Masters Level Clinical Intern on Leadlight’s Adult and Couples Therapy team, currently completing my graduate degree in counseling at Western Theological Seminary. I came to counseling through my own experience of healing and personal transformation. After years of struggling to make sense of myself, I eventually reached a place where I felt stuck and realized I could not move forward alone. Healing came through relationships — through the steady presence of a therapist and through intensive group experiences where I encountered honesty, support, challenge, and connection in life-changing ways. That process required courage, hard work, and the help of others, but it profoundly changed my life.

Those experiences are a large part of why I entered this field. I know how meaningful it can be to feel truly seen, understood, and accompanied through difficult seasons of life, and I hope to offer that same kind of healing relationship to the clients I serve.

My approach is relational, attachment-based, and trauma-informed. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relational difficulties, identity questions, spiritual struggles, and life transitions. I aim to create a counseling space marked by warmth, curiosity, honesty, and compassion — where clients can better understand themselves, process painful experiences, and move toward greater freedom, connection, and wholeness.

Working as an intern means you get the benefit of a whole team. I receive weekly collaborative supervision from the Holland South Site Supervisor along with ongoing input from Leadlight’s experienced Adult and Couples clinicians — so while you’re meeting with me, you’re really getting the wisdom of a full clinical team behind the work. To help expand access to care across West Michigan, I accept Medicaid and offer a highly reduced intern rate.
