Claire Blystra, MA, LLC
Therapist
Hi I’m Claire! I’m a Limited Licensed Counselor in Michigan and a graduate of Northwestern University, where I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Hope College, where I completed my undergraduate degree. I believe that although relationships can be the source of great pain, they are also the key to healing. The therapeutic space offers a warm, safe place to curiously and vulnerably explore not only ourselves but also the impacts of our relationships — and a chance to practice new ways of being within a secure, nonjudgmental relationship.
We all tell ourselves stories about the world. I won’t pretend to fully understand your story from the start or to have the key to the one “right” way of living. Rather, in therapy, we’ll explore how you see the world and how your experiences have shaped the way you’ve moved in it. Together, we’ll unpack your unique values, goals, and challenges and collaboratively explore how new ways of thinking or being can rewrite your life story to one you want to be telling.
Ages I work with
- Individual Adults
- Adult Couples
- Families
I take a collaborative, strengths-based approach in my work with adults, children, couples, and families. I have experience supporting clients through trauma, PTSD, relationship concerns, mood disorders, parenting challenges, and life transitions. I believe the best therapeutic approach is one jointly determined by both the client and the counselor, and I often work within trauma-informed and person-centered frameworks including Emotion Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, self-compassion, and cognitive therapies. If you’re ready to begin, reach out — I’d love to connect.
